Grand county fishing report for the week of 2-17-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 2-17-20. Yesterday we received another foot of snow in the area. This is creating lots of slush on our lakes, making travel difficult for walkers and some snowmobiles. ATV's are nearly impossible to get around. Here is an article that might help you get around in the slush. https://www.fishingwithbernie.com/blog/2020/2/10/slush-six

William's fork: Snow is 1 to 3 feet deep on the lake and significant slush pockets have formed on the ice. 14 to 17 inch lake trout are being caught in 40 to 70 feet of water on small 1 to 3 inch jigs tipped with sucker meat. Most of the action is on the bottom but we have seen groups of lake trout move through suspended as well recently, so keep a eye out for those suspended fish while you are jigging around the bottom. Rainbows are being caught in 10 feet of water or less in the large bays on the lake and in the inlet area. The best action for the rainbows is early morning first light to around 8 in the morning. Small 1/16th ounce jigs tipped with either wax or meal worms has been producing fish

Grand Lake: Grand has anywhere from 2 to 3 feet of snow on the ice which has created a ton of slush. Every area I have fished on the lake this week has some level of slush on it. Lake trout are being caught in 25 to 50 feet of water on small tube jigs (3.5 inches or smaller) tipped with sucker meat. The rainbow bite has slowed down but you can still find them in shallow in 8 feet of water or less cruising.

Lake Granby has a couple feet of snow on it combined with deep slush pockets, traveling can be difficult. No ATV's have been seen on the lake lately. Lake trout continue to fish well, tubes, twisters, spoons and bait are all producing bites. 50'-80' seems to be a good bite. Rainbows are cruising the shallows easting anything they see but the bite is over by 10:00 am.
