Grand County Fishing Report 10/1/2026

Fall is here, the aspens are golden on the hillsides, the mornings are brisk and water temperatures are dropping. These are all great signs that the fall bite is just around the corner and will be here before you know it. These next couple weeks we expect things to really start “heating up” as the water cools, bringing that excellent fall fishing action.

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. Water temperatures are in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. Lake trout action is fair. Look for them in 35 to 60 feet of water. Jigging raps and spoons are great reaction type baits that work well this time of year. Glow and chartreuse colors. Look for rainbow trout and brown trout in the inlet areas. Small green and white or baby rainbow colored jerkbaits have been a good lure choice as of late.

Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramps will remain closed for the season due to low water levels. Non-motorized hand launched boats are allowed. Water level is at 26%. Projections for this reservoir are that it will be drawn down to 6%-15% by next spring. Shore fishing has remained fair in the inlet areas. The river below the dam to the confluence with the Colorado River is flowing around 100 CFS, fishing has been good. Midge and egg patterns are good fly selections. Pike are cruising the shallows and starting their fall feed, good time to get out and target them.

Lake Granby- Sunset Point boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Stillwater Boat ramp is closed due to low water. Water level is at 49.5% or approximately 44 feet below full. Surface water temperatures are in the low 60’s. Lake trout action has slowed a bit as of late while the fish stage around their spawning locations. Look for them in 65 to 75 feet of water using 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch tubes and grubs in glow or chartreuse colors. Rainbow trout action has been good along the rocky shorelines casting silver and pink spoons. Brown trout action has been fair in Arapaho Bay on Dynamic J-spec jerkbaits in rainbow colors and pitching 2” crawfish colored tubes along the rocky shorelines.
