Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Water temperature has been in the low 60’s in the morning and warming as the day goes on. Fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout has been good in the early mornings or late evenings. For fly anglers, look to a leech pattern in the rocky areas or inlets. Shore anglers are reporting good success with a half a nightcrawler fished close to the bottom. We are finding good success from the boat casting small crankbaits in green or white colors as well as erratically retrieving a silver/blue colored flutter spoon. Lake trout action has been fair with best success in the mornings prior to the increased boat traffic. Look for best action on lake trout in 50 to 100 feet of water with a 3/8 ounce glow head jig paired with black or white colored grub and tipped with sucker fished close to the bottom. Williams Fork Reservoir - The east boat ramp hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The lake is at 100% capacity. Inflow is 199cfs, outflow is 215cfs. Visibility is really good; jigs drop out of sight around 15 feet. The water is really heating up. Last trip out surface temp was 63.5 early AM warming to 67 at noon, which is sending the lake trout to deeper, cooler water. Look for lake trout in 60 to 90 feet of water. Like last week, the best action is during the first few hours of the morning. As the day gets brighter and warmer the bite drops off. I have everyone running a different type of jig. They all get bit indicating that if there are biters in the area, they'll bite whatever is in their face. Fish on the bottom are more difficult to get to bite than fish in the water column. Bottom fish are liking a slow presentation, whereas fish in the column are responding well to fast movement. Late morning when the bite drops off, down-size your jig and start adding scent. Patience and persistence will put a bunch of keepers in the live well and maybe even a trophy. Northern Pike fishing has been slow. I rarely see anyone fishing for them. Rainbow trout haven't been stocked for several years so it's doubtful there's any catchable fish in the lake. The recently stocked kokanee are very small and won't be catchable for a few years. Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Water level is at 98% or approximately 1.5 feet below full. Water surface temperatures are approximately 63 degrees in the morning and warming to 67 by afternoon. Fishing for rainbow trout and brown trout has been good early in the mornings while they are active and shallow. Target them with pink, blue or silver spoons worked erratically, small crankbaits in rainbow trout patterns or good fly patterns have been egg sucking leeches and white clouser minnows. Shore anglers are reporting success with Mike’s shrimp eggs and nightcrawlers. Lake trout action has been fair to good this past week. Fishing did slow a bit during the busy holiday weekend with the increased boat traffic. We look for it to improve this week. Look for lake trout in 50 to 85 feet of water along the main lake points and drop-offs. A 2 inch to 4 inch tube jig in green or white has been producing bites, if the fish seem hesitant to bite, down-size your presentation. We like to use a 3/8 ounce brightly colored jig head tipped with small dark colored grub. Tip your lures with fresh sucker and pay close attention to your rod tip and line to detect those light bites. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.
