Grand County Fishing Report Week of 7/27/2026

Summer fishing has remained good as water temperatures are continuing to rise with the warm weather. Forecast is showing a steady stream of cooler weather, afternoon thunderstorms and some very welcome rain. This time of year, look to be on the water early and off before the lightning and storms roll through the area. Fish are starting to get wary from steady angling pressure, downsize your presentation and pay attention to the details to keep on the best action!

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. Water temperatures are in the mid to upper 60’s. Lake trout action has been fair. Look for them in 65 to 110 feet of water. Most consistent lures have been 2 inch purple grubs with a 3/8 ounce glow jig head. Jig your lure close to the bottom, with gentle movements keeping that line tight to detect those subtle bites. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite remains fair. Trolling is most productive method though early in the mornings before the sun hits the water you will find active fish along the shorelines willing to eat a silver and blue spinner or a green wooly bugger.

Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramps will remain closed for the season due to low water levels. Non-motorized hand launched boats are allowed. Water level is at 39%. Shore fishing has been fair in the inlet areas. Hopper dropper rig fished early in the day in the inlet creek will produce some rainbow trout. Pike action has been slow, think crawfish colored tubes and hard baits for best chance at a pike.

Lake Granby- Stillwater boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM until August 4th, where it will close and boat launching will move to Sunset Ramp until water levels rise to where Stillwater ramp will be usable again. Water level is at 63% or approximately 30 feet below full. Water temperatures are in the upper 60’s early then warming to low 70’s by the afternoon. Rainbow trout action has been fair, shore anglers reporting success early in the morning or late evening fishing live worms off the bottom, trollers are continuing to have success with a silver dodger and pink or green squid tipped with a Gulp waxie fished 20 feet below the surface. Lake trout bite has been the most consistent and best action on the lake. Look for them in 70 to 85 feet of water. Tube jigs in green/chartreuse or glow have been go-to lures with a small piece of sucker meat helps entice them to bite. Brown trout action is good when the afternoon storms roll in or on the overcast days, look to the rocky shorelines and cast some tubes or buck-hair jigs to the shore and work them shallow to deep.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 7/13/26

Hot summer temps and frequent afternoon thunderstorms has been the weather pattern this past week and we expect this to continue. Sometimes rain, lightning and even some hail! Keep your eye to the skyline and be prepared to get off the water before the storms roll in. Fishing has remained very good, Lake Granby is the premier fishery for the area and is consistently producing excellent numbers of lake trout. The streams and rivers in the area are fishing well, but make sure to pay attention to the water temperatures and voluntary closures. Get out on the water and enjoy before the dog days of summer arrive!

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. Water temperatures are in the low to mid 60’s. Lake trout action has been fair. Look for them in 50 to 100 feet of water. Go-to lures have been 2 1/2-inch Hooch’s tubes in glow or brown tipped with a small piece of sucker. Jig with small movements and keep that line tight to make bite detection easier. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite remains fair. Trolling silver dodgers with a pink squid or Tasmanian Devils has been working or casting the rocky shoreline by the town dock early and late in the day with Mepps spinners has producing a few as well.

Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramps will remain closed for the season due to low water levels. Non-motorized hand launched boats are allowed. Water level remains at 46%. Shore fishing has been fair in the inlet areas. Pike action has been slow, some success being reported on large jerk baits and crawfish colored tubes worked along the bottom.

Lake Granby- Stillwater boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Sunset boat ramp is closed. Water level is at 65% or approximately 28.5 feet below full. Water temperatures are in the low 60’s early then warming to mid 60’s by the afternoon. Rainbow trout action has been good, shore anglers reporting good success early in the morning fishing bait off the bottom, trollers are continuing to have success with a silver dodger and pink or green squid tipped with a Gulp waxie fished 15 to 20 feet below the surface. Lake trout continue to be the main attraction and the bite has been very good. Look for them in 65 to 85 feet of water. Various colors of 2- 1/2 inch tubes or grub bodies have been producing. Dark colors in the mornings transition to lighter colors as the sun moves overhead. A small piece of sucker meat on the hook helps entice them to bite. Brown trout action is good when those afternoon storms roll in, head to the rocky shorelines and cast some tubes.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 6/29/26

It was a little bit of a wild weather pattern this past week with some much-needed rain and cooler temperatures. As we look to the week ahead it looks like a return of warm sunny days with afternoon wind. Fishing has been very good even through the rapid weather changes and as things stabilize this should only help the fishing improve on the lakes. As you head out on the water this holiday weekend, don’t forget your life jackets and pay attention to that afternoon wind it can show up in a hurry. Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. This will be one of the busiest weeks of the summer in the area. Water temperatures are upper 50’s in the morning and warming as day progresses. Lake trout action has been fair. Look for them in 40 to 80 feet of water. Stay mobile to work each group of fish for best chance of success. Our go-to lures have been 2-inch tubes in glow or green tipped with a small piece of sucker and covered in shrimp scent. Work these with a slow cadence close to the bottom. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite remains fair. Trollers are reporting action on silver dodgers with a pink squid or Tasmanian Devils. Shore anglers are reporting success by the rocks along the town docks with Mepps spinners and small jerk baits.

Shore fishing has been fair in the inlet areas of moving water. Lake trout have moved off the shorelines. Pike action has been slow, some success being reported on large jerk baits and crawfish colored tubes worked along the bottom.

Lake Granby- Stillwater boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Sunset boat ramp is closed. Water level is at 68% or approximately 26 feet below full. Water temperatures are in the low 60’s early then warming to mid 60’s by the afternoon. Brown trout action has been good particularly in the windy afternoons. Look for those rocky shorelines or mudlines where the wind is blowing into. Pitching small tubes and minnow imitation baits along the shorelines has been very productive for some nice browns. Rainbow trout action has been good, shore anglers reporting good success early in the morning fishing bait off the bottom, trollers are continuing to have success with a silver dodger and pink or green squid tipped with a Gulp waxie fished 10 to 12 feet below the surface. Lake trout action remains excellent. Look for them in 50 to 80 feet of water. White or black grubs with a contrasting color jig head has been a productive lure choice this past week. When fish stop biting it’s time to move, some groups of fish are active while others are just around to window shop.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 6/22/26

It is officially summertime and fishing is still going strong in the area. Lake Granby has remained the premier destination for those looking for a fishing adventure, even with the lower-than-normal water level. Get out and enjoy this wonderful, warm, sunny weather, have a plan for wind in the afternoons and most importantly take advantage of the excellent fishing in Grand County.

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. Plan for heavy traffic on the water, particularly on the weekends. Water temperatures are upper 50’s in the morning and warming as day progresses. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite remains fair. Target the inlet areas and rip rap along the town docks for best action. Rainbow trout colored Vibra-Max Spinners, Mepps spinners, Casting Dynamic J-Spec or silver/blue colored and white jerk baits are our go-to lures. Lake trout action has been fair to good, depending on the day. Look for them in 40 to 75 feet of water just off the sides of drop offs and structure changes. A white jig head with a chartreuse or white body tipped with sucker is a good lure choice.

Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramps will remain closed for the season due to low water levels. Non-motorized hand launched boats are allowed. Water level remains at 54%. Shore fishing has been fair in the inlet areas of moving water. Lake trout have moved off the shorelines. Pike action has been slow, some success being reported on large perch colored jerk baits casting along the steeper shorelines.

Lake Granby- Stillwater and Sunset boat ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Water level is at 68.5% or approximately 25.5 feet below full. Water temperatures are in the low 60’s early then warming to mid 60’s by the afternoon. Rainbow trout action has been good, shore anglers reporting good success early in the morning fishing bait off the bottom, trollers are having success with a silver dodger and pink squid tipped with a Gulp waxie fished 10 feet below the surface. Brown trout action remains condition dependent. Fish the wind-blown shorelines with an erratically retrieved spoon or streamer in the evenings for best action. Lake trout action is excellent. Look for them in 50 to 80 feet of water. White grubs, chartreuse grub, or white tube jigs tipped with fresh sucker. Work them slow and pay close attention to detect those light bites!

Sunny days, (wind) and great fishing has been the story this past week. Water levels are holding steady and fish are settling into their summer patterns. The bite (and wind) remains strong in the entire area, be sure to plan your fishing day soon while the bite is still off the charts!

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. Plan for heavy traffic on the water, particularly on the weekend. Water temperatures are mid 50’s in the morning and warming as day progresses. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite remains fair. Target the inlet areas for best action. Casting Dynamic J-Spec or silver/blue colored spoons and spinners has been a good pattern. Lake trout action has been fair to good. Best bite is early before the traffic on the lake increases. Look for them in 30 to 55 feet of water. A glow head jig with a dark colored plastic body, tipped with fresh sucker and worked very close to the bottom will produce bites. Pay close attention to detect those light bites and get a solid hookset to land them!

Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramps will remain closed for the season due to low water levels. Non-motorized hand launched boats are allowed. Water level remains at 54%. Shore fishing has been fair in the inlet areas of moving water. Anglers will find a mix of fish utilizing these areas to find food brought in by moving water. Casting tubes with a slow retrieve along the bottom will produce bites from multiple species. .

Water temperatures are in the low 60’s early then warming to mid 60’s by the afternoon. Rainbow trout action has been good the past few weeks after the latest stocking. Kastmaster spoons and worms fished off bottom from shore has been productive early and late in the day. Brown trout action is condition dependent. Fish the wind-blown shorelines with an erratically retrieved spoon or streamer in the evenings for best action. Lake trout action is excellent. Look for them in 50 to 80 feet of water. White grubs, glow grub, or green pumpkin tube jigs tipped with fresh sucker and worked within 6 inches of them bottom has been a consistent pattern.

Spring runoff is still coming into our lakes and reservoirs keeping the bite in area going strong. Whether you are out for a pristine mountain day on one of our many area lakes or reservoirs or wading through a legendary stretch of river, you can’t go wrong this time of year. Definitely don’t delay in planning your time on the water before the big summer warm-up arrives!

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. Traffic on the water is increasing as we get closer to summer. Water temperatures are mid 50’s in the morning and warming as day progresses. Rainbow trout and brown trout bite has been fair. Look for that cooler moving water or natural rock shorelines for best success. Casting small jerkbaits and bright colored spoons to shore and in the inlets is a consistent pattern. Lake trout action has been fair to good depending on the day. Look for them in 25 to 50 feet of water. A glow head jig with a dark colored plastic body, tipped with fresh sucker and worked very close to the bottom will produce bites. Pay close attention to detect those light bites and get a solid hookset to land them!

Green pumpkin and chartreuse colored tube jigs, or grub bodies tipped with very fresh sucker and worked within 6 inches of them bottom has been a very consistently producing pattern this past week.

The streams are running and water levels are rising along with the temperature of the water. Fish are starting to move towards their summer patterns and trending towards the deeper, cooler water. Take advantage of this opportunity to fish while the inlets are running and keeping the bite going strong. See you on the water!

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours will be 6am to 8pm. Water temperatures are in the low 50’s. Fishing for all species has been fair to good. Rainbow trout and brown are most active along the shorelines and inlet areas. Small white tubes, white jerk baits or various silver/blue colored spoons are great choices. Lake trout are active in the 25 to 50 foot depths, A 3/8 ounce jig head with a chartreuse glow colored grub or a 3 inch white tube tipped with sucker worked close to the bottom will produce bites.

Shore fishing has been fair in the inlet areas of moving water. Will find a mix of fish utilizing these areas to find food brought in by moving water. Working two inch green pumpkin colored tubes with a slow retrieve along the bottom has been a consistent pattern.

Lake Granby- Stillwater boat ramp is open 6 am to 8 pm. Water level is rising at 27.5 feet below full with water temperatures in the low 50’s in the morning warming to mid 50’s by the afternoon. Fishing has remained good for all species. Brown trout and rainbow trout are active along the rocky shorelines, Various three to four inch jerk baits, small tubes and orange colored spoons are good lure choices. Best lake trout action is in 35 to 65 feet of water along points with access to deeper water. Green pumpkin colored tubes tipped with sucker worked very tight to the bottom has been most consistent pattern.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 5/18/26

The weather has been a roller coaster ride this past week, but the fishing has not slowed down one bit! Lake trout action has remained hot and has been the star of the show. Expecting a busy weekend on the water, hope everyone has a fun, safe, fish filled holiday!

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8PM. Water temperatures have been in the upper 40’s. Rainbow trout and brown trout action has been very good. Target the inlet areas, fish on the edges of the moving water with white crankbaits or gold colored spoons worked with an erratic retrieve. Lake trout action has been good. Look for 20 to 40 feet of water. A glow head jig with a chartreuse body, either a tube or grub, tipped with a small piece of sucker has been working consistent. The lake trout are spread out, stay on the move to find best action.

Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramp will not open in 2026. Remains open for non-motorized, hand launched watercraft. Reservoir is at 52% of capacity. Shore fishing has slowed for lake trout as the water has warmed, look for those shorelines that drop off quickly, 3 inch tube jigs tipped with sucker worked along bottom will produce strikes. Pike fishing is fair in the shallow bays, large jerk baits worked with a jerk-long pause retrieve or work a 3 to 4 inch tube jig along bottom.

Lake Granby - Stillwater boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 8 PM. Boat docks were not in the water this past weekend. Water level is approximately 30 feet below full. Water temperatures are in the upper 40’s early in the morning warming into the low 50’s by the afternoon. Rainbow trout action is good, pink and silver spoons, or a chironomid under an indicator in the inlet areas will produce good action. Brown trout bite has been fair, best action has been on the windy, cloudy days. Jerkbaits or pitching tube jigs along the rocky shorelines has been working well in the right conditions. Lake trout bite is hot! Look for fish in 40 to 70 feet of water along structure breaks, 3 inch tube jigs or grubs in green pumpkin or goby colors tipped with a small piece of sucker has been our go-to lure. If you aren’t constantly seeing fish on your electronics, time to move. The fish are on the move and active when you are in the right area!

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 5/11/26

Fishing remains very good on the streams and lakes in the area. Water temperatures are starting to rise a bit and fish are very active. This is a prime time to be on the water, get out and enjoy the excellent bite while the crowds are low and the fishing is on fire!

Grand Lake - Boat ramps are now open, hours will be 6am to 8pm. Water temperatures are in the mid 40’s. Fishing for all species has been excellent. Rainbow trout and brown are active along the shorelines and inlet areas. Sierra Slammer tubes under a float or a silver colored Kastmaster spoon are good lure choices. Also finding the occasional tiger muskie when working shorelines. Lake trout are active in the 20 to 45 foot depths, A 3/8 ounce glow colored jig head with a black grub body tipped with sucker has been a very productive lure.

Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramps will remain closed for the season due to low water levels. Non-motorized hand launched boats are allowed. Water level is at 51%. Shore fishing has been good for northern pike, brown trout and lake trout. Look for the northern pike in the shallow bays, large streamers or rainbow trout colored crankbaits are good lure choices. If looking for lake trout look to the shorelines that drop off rapidly, green 3 inch tubes worked slowly along bottom are a good lure, stay mobile to find areas that hold fish.

Fishing has been good for all species. Brown trout and rainbow trout are active along the rocky shorelines, 3 inch crankbaits, small tubes and orange or pink colored spoons are good lure choices. Best lake trout action is in 15 to 50 feet of water. Dark colored tubes tipped with sucker worked tight to the bottom has been very effective.

Grand County Fishing Report Week of 4/20/26

Here we are right back at it after a short ice season that flew by! Open water is here and boat ramps are starting to open up in the area. Spring fishing has been excellent so far and we don’t expect the bite to slow any time soon. Get out there and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year.

Grand Lake - Boat ramp expected to open May 8th. Fishing from shore has been excellent. Chrome colored Kastmasters or pink Vibramax spinners worked from shore around the inlets and canal to Shadow have been producing rainbow trout, brown trout and the occasional lake trout. Williams Fork Reservoir - Closed to motorized boating for the 2026 season due to low water level. Shore launched non motorized boats are allowed. Fishing from shore has been good for lake trout. Rapala X-raps, Husky Jerks and 4 inch green tube jigs cast from shore has been working well for the lake trout and pike. Target the shallow bays if after pike, if looking for lake trout look for the banks that drop off into deeper water. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Lake Granby - Stillwater boat ramp is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Water level is 29.5 feet below full and water temperatures have been between 41 and 45 degrees. Fishing has been excellent for all species. Rainbow trout are active in the inlet areas with moving water, Kastmasters and Little Cleo spoons are a good lure choice. Look for rocky shorelines if you are targeting brown trout, 3 inch jerk baits or 2 1/2 inch tubes in crawfish colors will produce fish. Best action for lake trout is in 15 to 60 feet of water, 3 inch and 5 inch tubes in white or green pumpkin colors.
