It’s fall and one of our favorite times to be on the water in Grand County! The mornings are starting to have a little bite to them and fishing is getter better day by day as the water cools. Ice fishing season will be on us before we know it, with the low water on Lake Granby we are anticipating ice forming earlier than usual and with a little luck, we will be in for an extended ice season. For now we get to enjoy one of the best, action filled bites of the year. Get out and hit the water, this excellent fishing and fall weather doesn’t last forever, soon it will give way to winter and ice!
Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 AM to 6PM. Last day for boat ramp operation is 11/1. Water temperatures are in the mid 50’s. Lake trout action is good. Target rocky areas in 30 to 55 feet of water with glow grubs and rattling spoons in chartreuse colors tipped with a small piece of sucker meat. Best rainbow trout and brown trout action is in the inlet areas, small jerk baits and Kastmaster spoons are working well right now.
Williams Fork Reservoir - Boat ramps will remain closed for the season due to low water levels. Non-motorized hand launched boats are allowed. Water level is at 24%. Projections for this reservoir are that it will be drawn down to 6%-15% by next spring. Shore fishing has remained fair in the inlet areas. The river below the dam to the confluence with the Colorado River is flowing 60-90 CFS, fishing has been good. RS2, Miracle Midge and egg patterns are good fly selections.
Lake Granby- Sunset Point boat ramp hours are 6AM to 6PM. Closing date for the Sunset Point boat ramp will be 11/29. Stillwater Boat ramp is closed due to low water. Water level is at 48.5% or approximately 45 feet below full. Surface water temperatures are in the mid to uppper 50’s. Lake trout action has really picked up the past few days. Look for them in 20 to 50 feet of water using 2.5 inch to 3.5 inch tubes and grubs in glow or chartreuse colors. Rainbow trout action has been good along the dams and east end of Arapaho Bay. Silver spoons and small streamers are good lure choices. Brown trout action has been fair on the windy afternoons in the rocky areas, Goldie streamers or pitching 2” green pumpkin tubes along the shorelines is a good pattern for success.
