Grand County fishing report for the week of 7-19-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 7-19-20.

Williams Fork - Water capacity is at 100%. Ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. The surface temp is 64 warming to 66 in the main body. Small Lake Trout are biting well until about 11AM and pick up again after 3PM. Look for them in 70 to 90 foot of water. Small grubs or tubes tipped with sucker meat fished near the bottom will produce some hits. Some Northern Pike are being caught in the west bays. Any lure that finds a fish that's in the mood will get hit, but be prepared to work hard for that hit. Rainbows are rising for bugs on the surface throughout the day. Cast small spoons, spinners or flies at the rises. Shore fishermen are catching a few Rainbows around the campgrounds bottom fishing with bait. Grand Lake- Water temp is 66 to 69 degrees at the surface. Fishing has slowed down a bit this week due to high temps. Lake trout are are hanging in the 40 to 70 foot range. Small plastics tipped with sucker meat are producing most of the lake trout. Browns and rainbows are rising at the surface from first light until the sun hits the water.  Guide Sam Hochevar

Lake Granby- Rainbows are along the shorelines in the evening. Use binoculars or drive around the lake until you find them rising to the bug hatch. Cast a fly or small spoon to the rise. Patience, timing and casting accuracy are key to this bite. Lake trout are eating tubes, spoons and grubs tipped with sucker meat in 60'-80'. Find a few fish in the area before you drop.

Grand County Fishing Report For The Week Of 7-6-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 7-6-20.

Grand Lake - lake trout are being caught in 25 to 50 feet of water with small tubes and spoons tipped with sucker meat. The bite has slowed down this week. Rainbows and browns are 5 to 20 feet down and that bite has been inconsistent. The best bite seems to be on the overcast windy days and calm sunny days being the toughest. Williams Fork - Water capacity is 100%. Ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM daily. Surface temp is 61 warming to 64 on sunny calm days. The Lake Trout bite is fair to good depending on the day. Fish are scattered and moving deeper. Look for them in 70 to 90 foot. Jig small tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat and be very patient. Frequent moves will keep you on biting fish. Bait fishermen are catching a few Rainbows around the campgrounds with worms, Powerbait and salmon eggs. Cast small spinners to rises early and late in the day. Kokanee trolling is very slow due to low population. Koke trollers are mostly catching small Lake Trout. Northern Pike are slow, but you'll find them hanging in the shallow water in all the bays. Lake Granby- The bug hatches in the evening are bringing lots of rainbows to the banks. Look in the backs of bays for fish rising to bugs. A small spoon or fly will make these fish easy targets. Lake trout continue their slide into deeper water. 60'-80' seems to be a great depth. Tubes, grubs or spoons tipped with sucker meat are all getting bit.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-28-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-28-20.

Grand Lake - water temp is 61 in the mornings. Lake trout fishing has been good in 20 to 45 feet of water. Small spoons and tubes tipped with sucker meat has produced most of the lakers. Rainbows and Browns have moved a little deeper and are being caught 15 to 20 feet of water during the day. Trolling has been the most effective technique targeting the browns and rainbows. Williams Fork - The lake is finally full. Water capacity is at 100%. Ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Surface temp has risen to 59 warming to 62 on a sunny day. The Lake Trout bite has picked up now that the lake has topped off. All age groups can be found in 55' to 85'. Fish deeper as the day wears on. Tubes and rubber grubs tipped with sucker meat can produce limits for the patient angler. Some Rainbows are being caught lake wide bottom fishing with worms, eggs or Power Bait. Small Rainbows are hitting spinners and flies in the inlet. Northern's are slow but devoted fishermen are catching a few in the west side bays. Lake Granby- Late in the evening rainbow trout are in shallow water eating bugs. Small spoons or flies are working very well. Wait for a rise then cast your offering straight to it. During the day bait on the bottom is producing a few trout. Lake trout are in 40'-90' of water. Small spoons, tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat are working very well.

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-22-20

 Williams Fork - Water capacity is 98%. Ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Surface temp is 56 early AM warming to 60/62 on a sunny day. There are several partially submerged large logs in the main body... keep a sharp eye out for them. The Lake Trout bite fair to good dependent on the day. The fish are moving deeper with each passing week. Look for them in 55' to 85'. Tube jigs or rubber baits tipped with sucker meat will produce some hits. Patience key right now. Frequent moves will keep you on biting fish. Northerns are slow but can be found in the shallows in all the bays and along the rocks ledges. They'll take about anything you throw at them with a slow to moderate retrieve. Rainbows are being caught lake wide bottom fishing with bait. The inlet is producing some fish where the river meets the lake with small spoons, spinners or flies. A few Kokanee are being caught trolling in 40' to 50' but trollers are mainly catching small Lake Trout. Randy H Guide - Fishing with Bernie 

Grand Lake - Water temp 51, run off is slowing down. Lake trout are being caught in 25 to 50 feet of water on small plastics tipped with sucker meat. In the early morning (first light) browns and rainbows are still catching but are moving deeper by mid morning. Sam Hochevar- Fishing with Bernie 

Lake Granby- 56 degrees, The lake should fill this week, run off is slowing down. Rainbows are fishing very well around the shorelines. Powerbait and worms seem to be working best. In the evenings look for risers and cast small spoons to the rise. A few browns are being caught in rocky areas very early in the morning on various minnow style baits, the night bite should be heating up in the next couple weeks. Lake trout are fishing good to excellent. 40'-80' has been the best for us. Tube jigs, grubs and spoons tipped with sucker meat all have been working very well.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-15-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-16-20 Williams Fork - Water capacity is 96%. Ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Surface temp is 54 early AM warming to 62 at days end. Spring runoff has brought some large logs onto the lake, keep an eye out for them. Currently the Lake Trout bite is slow to fair. All age groups can be found in 45' to 65' of water. Frequent moves will keep you on fish. Tubes or grubs tipped with sucker meat will produce some lite hits. Northern Pike are in the shallows lake wide. Working the bays with slow moving top water or suspending hard baits may produce some hits. Rainbows are being caught lake wide around the campgrounds bottom fishing with bait. Casting small spinners or spoons in moving water at the inlet should produce some Rainbows early AM and late PM. Kokanee trollers are catching a fish or two a day but are mostly hooking with with small Lake Trout.

Williams Fork: Water level is full. Lake trout are being caught in 40 to 70 feet of water on small plastics and small spoons tipped with sucker meat. Many of the lake trout have been suspended. Pike are being caught in 5 to 15 feet of water.

Lake Granby- Rainbow trout fishing continues to be good to excellent. The key seems to be running water, worms are definitely the best bait. Lake Trout are being caught in 40-80’ of water. Tubes, grubs and spoons are all working well.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-08-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-8-20. Its summer in the rockies, make sure to bring rain gear and sunscreen.

Grand Lake -  Fishing for all species has been very good.   Brown trout and Rainbow trout are being caught all along the shorelines.   Small spoons and crankbaits are working well.  Lake trout bite has picked up and has been good to excellent depending on the day.  Various plastics and jigging spoons tipped with sucker in 30-65ft has been producing fish.  ---Dan Shannon  - Guide, Fishing with berniekeefe@hotmail.com 

Williams Fork - Water capacity is 92%. Ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. The surface temp is 51 early in the AM warming to low 60's. PM winds are blowing warm surface water to the east side of the lake where you'll find Pike sunning in the shallows.  The Northern bite is slow but some fish are being caught on a slow retrieve with floating or suspending hard baits. The Lake Tout bite if fair to good depending on the day. Warming water is driving the fish to deeper, but all age groups can be found in 45' to 55' early AM. Fish a deeper as the day wears on. Tube jigs or grubs tipped with sucker meat are working well. Frequent moves will keep you on biting fish. Rainbows can be caught around the campgrounds bottom fishing with worms, Salmon eggs or Power Bait. Casting small spinners or spoons where the river meets the lake early and late in the day should produce some fish. Kokanee trolling is very slow. Kokanee trollers are catching small Lake Trout. Lake Granby- Rainbows have been fishing excellent. Worms on a jig head if you'd rather throw lures try a very small Bio Bait tube on a 1/16 oz jig head, cast it out let it sink then reel it in very slowly. 

Browns have been hitting minnow style jerk baits and tubes in the rocks. Browns are fishing best very early and very late in the day. 

Lake Trout have been biting well. 30-60' of water is holding a lot of fish. Tubes, spoons and hair jigs have all been working very well.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-1-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 6-1-20.  Fishing has been very good and should be for the next few weeks. Lake Trout are leaving the shallows and the pike fishing should be heating up. 

Grand Lake -  The inlets are flowing well and fishing has been good.  rainbows and browns are being caught all along the shorelines on crankbaits and spoons.  Lake trout are scattered throughout the lake, small plastics tipped with sucker worked right on the bottom have been producing.  Dan Shannon- Guide, Fishing with Bernie Grand lake. Temps are in the high 40s and there is alot of runoff and rain water flowing into the lake. Inlets have been good for browns and rainbows. Fish the current edge with jerkbaits and paddletails for brown trout, and try drifting small tubes or casting small spoons for rainbows. Lake trout are showing up from 30-70' on bottom and suspended. Small curly tails with a 1/2oz jig head has been versatile for both deep and shallow lake trout fishing. 

Williams Fork - Water capacity is 91%. Ramp hours are 6AM to 8PM. Surface temp is in the low 50's early in the AM warming to 58+ on a sunny day. PM winds are blowing the warm surface water to the east side of the lake. Lake Trout are starting to transition from shallow to deeper water as the lake is warming up fast this year. Look for them in 45' to 75' of water. The Lake Trout bite is fair to good depending on the day. We are catching on small grubs or tube jigs tipped with sucker meat, but need to move frequently to stay on a biting fish. Northern Pike are slow but can be found in the warm shallows sunning. Slow moving suspending or floating baits may produce a hit. Kokanee are very slow due to low population. Bottom fisherman are catching some Rainbows on worms or Power Bait around the campgrounds. Williams Fork - water temp 58 degrees and the water level is roughly 5 feet down. Lake trout are being found in 45 to 70 feet of water. jigging plastics 2 to 4 inches tipped with sucker meat along the bottom has produced most of the lake trout. Pike are about done spawning and are being caught in 8 - 15 feet of water around inlets and flats.  

Lake Granby- Water Temp 55, Lake Trout have left the shallows and have started their early summer patterns.Look for them win 30-80' of water. Tubes and spoons are working very well. Brown trout con tin to eat crank baits and soft plastics fished near rocky areas. Rainbows are being caught in the backs of bays and by running water. Worms seem to be working very well.

Grand County fishing report for the week of

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 5-26-20.  Fishing has been very good and should be for the next few weeks.

Williams fork - water temp is in the mid 50s and the lake is roughly 10 feet down.  Lake trout are being caught in 30 to 65 feet of water. Jigging small plastics tipped with sucker meat has been producing most of the fish. Rainbows are being caught primarily around the inlet area in 5 to 10 feet of water. Williams Fork - Surface temp is 50 degrees warming to 55 on a sunny day. Water capacity is 89%. The Lake Trout bite is fair to good. With a little patience anglers should be able to catch a limit.  We are catching fish from 35' to 70' on grubs or tubes tipped with sucker meat. Larger Lake Trout seem to be in shallower water, and smaller fish are in the deeper water. Northern Pike and Kokanee fishing is slow. Shore fishermen are catching Rainbows early and late in the day. Grand County fishing report for the week of 5-18-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 5-18-20. The area ramps opened on Friday the 15th. Fishing has been very good and should be for the next few weeks.

Williams Fork - Water temp is in the low 50s and the water level is about 10 feet down. Lake trout are being caught anywhere from 30 feet to 70 feet of water on small jigs tipped with sucker meat. Pike are spawning in shallow bays and rainbows are being caught in the inlet area or any other area water is entering the lake. Sam Hochevar, guide Fishing with Bernie.

Grand Lake, The boat ramps are finally open!  Fishing has been excellent for brown trout and rainbow trout casting small tubes, spinners and spoons.  Fish early or late in the day for the best action.  Lake trout are scattered but bite well when you find them.  Work depths from 40-60 ft small tubes, grubs or spoons tipped with sucker are all productive baits.  Boaters, beware of floating debris, the inlets are running fast and bringing in lots of surprises!!  -  Dan Shannon - Guide, Fishing with Bernie

Lake Granby, Rainbows are very active around any flowing water. Lures or bait are working very well. Browns are crunching crank baits early, late and on cloudy windy days. Lake trout are just about everywhere in the water column right now. Tubes, crank baits and bait has been working very well.

Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-23-20

Here is your Grand County fishing report for the week of 3-23-20. The ice is in spring fishing conditions. Be very careful around shorelines, inlets any shallow rocky areas. 

Grand Lake – Fishing remains Fair to good for all species, but does seem to change with this crazy spring weather.  The ice is holding up with the top 12” starting to get soft and the usual open water areas are starting to grow.  No problems with slush or travel lately.  Rainbows and browns are biting in 8-16 ft of water,  pink and white spoons or tungsten jigs tipped with wax worm have been producing.  Lake trout are being found suspended in 70-110 ft of water.  Tube jigs, spoons and minnow style baits tipped with sucker are producing bites.  Target those suspended fish with your electronics and move often until you find the active fish.  -  Dan Shannon -  Guide, Fishing with Bernie 

Williams fork-Bite for lake trout has been decent lately with most of the fish being caught in 50 to 70 feet of water on structure. Working small plastics tipped with sucker meat on the bottom has been the ticket lately. Rainbows are being caught around the inlet or in sandy bays, the best bite has been first thing in the morning. Small spoons and tiny plastics imitating bugs have produced some fish recently. Lake Granby- Has been extremely good for rainbows in the shallows. Small Jigs tipped with wax worms along the shoreline are getting bit.Try 6-15' early in the morning. When the sun hits the ice the bite is about over.  Lake trout have been eating twisters, tubes, spoons and plain bait on a jig head. Don't forget to look for suspended fish over very deep water. When fishing these fish keep your lure above them.
