Ice season has been slow to arrive, but once it did it has been some great fishing! Please use caution as you venture on to the ice, we have variable ice conditions on all our bodies of water. Time is now to get out there and get some ice fishing in, spring is not far off!
Grand Lake - Ice conditions and travel are good with little snow on the ice. Use caution around the moving water areas, there is lots of water moving through the system. Rainbow and Brown trout bite has been fair, best fishing is at sunrise along the rocky shorelines in 8 to 15 feet of water. Atomic tubes and Pinhead spoons in pink and white are a good lure choice. Lake trout action has been fair. Best bite is in the morning until about 11 a.m. focusing on 35 to 70 feet of water. Productive lures have been 2- 1/2 inch tubes in green pumpkin or a 1/4 ounce tungsten glow jig tipped with a small piece of sucker meat.
Williams Fork Reservoir - Water level is 55% full. Ice ranges from 1 to 10 inches, travel is good with little snow, cleats highly recommended. Bring your spud bar and check as you go thickness changes fast. Fishing for lake trout has been good, look for them in 45 to 75 feet of water around changes in bottom structure. Three inch crawfish colored tubes or bright orange colored spoons tipped with sucker meat have been producing. Pike action has been slow but should be picking up as we move into March.
Lake Granby - Water level is 62% full. Ice ranges from 0 to 10 inches. Shorelines have been soft late in the day on the warm days, there are also many pressure ridges to navigate throughout the entire lake. Fishing has been good for rainbow trout and brown trout. Target the rocky dike areas in water 15 feet and under. Pink tungsten bull fly or Dynamic Twitch Tube in white have been working well. Lake trout action has been very good. Look for fish in 40 to 65 feet of water. Three-inch smoke colored tubes or a glow jig head with a contrasting-colored grub body tipped with sucker have been our go-to lures. Stay on the move till you find a feeding group of fish.
