Weekly Middle Park report for the week of 3-3-19

Here is your middle park report for the week of 3-3-19-19 The ice is reaching over 20" on a lot of our lakes up here. We did get a lot of snow on the lakes, slush might become a problem again. The wind drifting snow is continuing to cause problems for people on the "back roads".

Williams fork is starting to pick back up after the tournament last weekend for the 12 - 17'' lake trout. Small spoons and plastics (single tail grubs, flukes, tubes) under 3 inches jigged in 40 to 80 feet of water have been producing fish. Pike are becoming more active in shallow water (15 feet or less) however the bite is hit and miss (some days they are very difficult if not impossible to get to bite) . Rainbows remain active in shallow water (10 feet or less) from sunrise until about 8:30. The rainbows and browns are eating small jigs tipped with wax worms in less the 10' of water. Lake trout Are being caught in 30-80' of water. Tubes, twisters and spoons all seem to be working well. Middle park fishing report 2-25-19

Here is your middle park report for the week of 2-25-19 The ice is reaching over 20" on a lot of our lakes up here. Such is not much of a problem but the wind drifting snow is continuing to cause problems for people on the "back roads".

Lake Granby rainbows are fishing very well in 6-15' of water. Small bright colored tubes tipped with wax worms are doing very well before 9am. Lake trout are still eating Bio Bait tubes, try tipping them with a small piece of meat. The "suspended" bite is going very well over deep water. Look for fish cruising 40-60' deep over 100+ feet of water. A small grub fished in the schools will entice strikes.

Grand lake has slowed down a bit.A few lake tout are being caught over deeper water.

Middle Park fishing report 2-18-19

Here is your middle park report for the week of 2-18-19. It seems if we're not getting -10 it's going to be very windy lately. Be careful on the back roads, the snow has been drifting and people are getting stuck. 

Williams Fork,  The fishing seems to have slowed down a little bit in the past week. Added pressure by anglers and inconsistent weather patterns are playing a big part in this. Ice is ranging in the 16-20 in range with a good amount of snow and slush on top.

The 12-20 inch lake trout are biting smaller jigs then they were last week. Bio Bait tubes, Fuzz-E-Grubs, Watsit grubs seems to be working best. Tip all jigs with a small piece of meat and add a little bit of scent for best results.
The Big Fish continue to roam and have been showing up but proving difficult to connect with. Large swim-baits well off the bottom have been getting the most action.
Rainbows and Browns continue to cruise the shallows. Panfish Leech Flutter spoons worked aggressively and small, bright colored jigs topped with wax worms seem to be working best. Concentrate your efforts in 6-15 feet of water for best results.

Suspended fish are stating to show up in the deeper water. Bio Baits twister tails have been getting bit by these fish. Tip them with a small piece of sucker meat and fish just above the suspended fish. Rainbows have gotten a little tougher also, keeping fresh bait on your jigs will help. It's an early bite and over with by 9 am on most days. Bright colored jigs tipped with wax worms are producing fish in the 10-14" range. Lake trout are being caught in the 50-80' range. Middle Park ice fishing report for the week of 2-11-19

Here is your middle park report for the week of 2-11-19. The wind has made the surface of the lakes very rough and has blown snow off some areas. Be careful traveling around the lake. 

Williams Fork: Fishing for small lake trout (12''-18'') has slowed down a bit this week. Fish are still active from sunrise until around 1 or 2 in the afternoon, but we are getting a lot of followers and short strikes. Small pieces of sucker meat seem to help produce more quality bites. We are starting to see a lot of suspended fish off the bottom so keep an eye on the entire water column when looking at your electronics. Small swimbaits have been effective on the suspended fish. The large lake trout have been hit or miss, Some large fish have been showing up on structure in 50 to 70' of water but bites have been tough to come by.  Due to the increased pressure on the lake, you really need to have a flawless presentation to entice a strike. Pay special attention to fine details when watching your electronics and adjust accordingly to entice a strike. Fishing for rainbows and brown has remained slow to moderate with most of the action happening early in the morning, right around sunrise, using small jigs tipped with a wax worm, salmon egg and weighted nymphs on large shallow flats and bays. Grand Lake is fishing well. Rainbows are still around the shorelines eating small bright colored jigs and spoons. It helps to tip them with wax worms, meal worms or shrimp. Lake Granby, The rainbows are very eager to bite small jigs tipped with bait. 6-10' of water seems to be the key. They do bite early, the bite slows down about the time the sun hits the ice. There seems to be a shrinking window for the lake trout bite. Its been early till around 11:00 then it gets a little tougher. Soft plastics, marabous and spoons tipped with a small piece of sucker meat should get some bites.

Middle park ice fishing report 2-5-19

This middle park fishing report is being brought to you by the Fishing with Bernie team for the week of 2-5-19. We are seeing very little slush around the lake. We could use some snow on the ice to help make the ride smoother. 

Williams Fork is still fishing well for smaller lake trout in the 12-17'' range, using small plastics in the 1 to 3 inch range. These plastics have been most productive when tipped with small pieces of sucker meat. The key seems to be to keep moving around structure in 30 - 70 feet of water until you find the greatest concentration of fish. Quite a few fish have started showing up suspended in the water column, so keep an eye on your fish finder and be looking for those fish. Rainbow action has remained slow to moderate with a fewlargefish being caught. Most of the rainbow action will be in shallow and will happen from sunrise and will last about 2 hours, small spoons tipped with wax or meal worms have been producing fish. The pike have been hit and miss with most of the fish being caught in 20 feet of water or less. Slush has improved from last week, however there are some nasty spots remaining. Grand Lake is fishing well for lake trout in 30-80' of water. Small grubs tipped with sucker meat are working well. Lake Granby is fishing very good for lake trout. Fish the 50-8-' depths with tubes, spoons or minor baits tipped with a small piece of sucker meat. Rainbows are being caught along the shorelines very early in the morning with small bright colored jigs in less than 15' of water.

Middle park ice fishing report 1-28-19

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 1-28-19. Due to the last couple snowstorms we are starting to experience a little bit of slush on the lakes. We are still seeing people walk long distances and ATV's out also. 

Williams Fork is still fishing well for 12-17'' lake trout, using the usual baits. The key seems to be to keep moving around structure in 30 - 70 feet of water until you find the greatest concentration of fish. Rainbow action has remained slow to moderate with a fewnice fish being caught. Most of the rainbow action will be in shallow and will happen from sunrise and will last about 2 hours. The pike have been hit and miss with most of the fish being caught in 20 feet of water or less. Sam Hochevar- Guide Fishing with BernieGrand Lake, Rainbow and Brown trout are still taking small, bright colored jigs tipped with wax or meal worms along the shorelines. It is also a good idea to also carry a rod with a small spoon to search for the aggressive fish feeding in the shallows. 8-20 feet of water seems to be best for these trout so drill some holes and find what depth the fish are holding in for that day. The lake trout are also feeding aggressively out in deeper water (50-90 feet). Small white jigs or tubes tipped with a piece of meat seem to be doing the trick. When you are out in the deeper water, keep an eye on the entire water column as there have been a few fish coming through suspended off of the bottom. The area by the east outlet and the inlet from Shadow Mountain continue to have open water and questionable ice especially when they are pumping water. Jake Foos- Guide Fishing with BernieLake Granby, Rainbows have been fishing pretty consistent along the shorelines in 8-15 feet of water using small jigs tipped with wax worms or spoons jigged very aggressively. Concentrate your efforts finding structure along the shoreline in these depths and that will give you the best chance at these fish. Lake trout have been fishing well in 50-80 feet of water on deep structure. Tube jigs, spoons and soft plastics tipped with a small piece of sucker meat has been producing the best. The lake is starting to see a lot of slush as of late with the heavy snows we have been getting. Please be aware of where you are traveling and use extra caution in these areas.Lake Granby's lake trout are very active till around noon. Small plastic jigs and spoons are catching the majority of fish. Weekly fishing report 1-22-19

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 1-22-19. Due to the last couple snowstorms we are starting to experience a little bit of slush on the lakes. We are still seeing people walk long distances and ATV's out also. 

Williams Fork 10 to 14'' - Williams Fork is starting to develop some areas of slush out there due to recent snowfall and warmer conditions. Williams Fork has been fishing well for lake trout in the 13 to 18 inch range in 40 to 80 feet of water. Small plastics with a small amount of sucker meat have been producing fish. Smaller spoons have been productive as well. A few pike have been caught, mostly in 10 feet of water or less. Rainbow action is mostly in shallow as well, in about 8 feet of water or less. The bulk of the action is early in the morning 6:45 to 9:30.

Grand Lake is fishing very well. Rainbows and a few browns are in shallow water eating bright colored jigs and spoons. Early mornings have been best. Lake trout are active in 30-80', small plastics tipped with sucker meat have been doing very well. Slab spoons have also been producing lots of fish. 

Lake Granby's lake trout are very active till around noon. Small plastic jigs and spoons are catching the majority of fish. Rainbows are active in 3-10' of water eating anything bright as long as its tipped with bait.

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 1-14-19. 

Williams Fork, Ice has been 8-11'' check as you go. Rainbows have been slow to moderate with most of the action coming early in the morning in shallow water (3 to 8') on small jigs and spoons tipped with meal worms or wax worms. Plenty of small lake trout (13 to 18 inches) are still being caught on structure in 60 to 80 feet of water on or near the bottom. Small jigs and spoons have been the top producers for smaller lake trout. The lake trout bite has slowed down in recent days so keep moving around structure until you find the greatest concentration of fish and expect some very light bites. The larger lake trout have been tough recently but larger tubes  and moving around the lake has produced a few good sized fish. Hochevar, guide Fishing with BernieGrand Lake has 10-12" of ice everywhere we've been. Rainbows have been very active in shallow water. Small jigs tipped with wax worms have been getting bit. Browns are a little deeper, small jigs are working for them also. Rainbows are active early in the morning in 3-8' of water. Small jigs tipped with wax worms are working. Lake Trout have been active in 30-90' of water. 2-3" tubes and spoons tipped with sucker meat are getting bit.

Rainbows have been slow to moderate with most of the action coming early in the morning in shallow water (3 to 8') on small jigs and spoons tipped with meal worms. Plenty of small lake trout (13 to 18 inches) are being caught on structure in 40 to 80 feet of water on or near the bottom. Small soft plastics in the 1 to 3 inch range tipped with small pieces of sucker meat have produced most of the fish. Keep moving around structure in these depths to find the greatest concentration of fish as it can vary greatly from day to day. Lake Granby, Ice has been 4-6" check the ice as you go. Rainbows have been eating small bright colored jigs tipped with wax worms in 3-10' of water. The early bite is best. Lake trout have been hitting small jigs and spoons tipped with sucker meat. Depths of 30-80' seem to be best.

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 12-26-2018. Ice conditions are changing daily, please use extreme caution while walking on the ice. Check the ice as you go.

Grand lake is fishing well for rainbows in 3'-12' of water. Tiny jigs tipped with wax worms or small spoons are enticing strikes. Lake trout are eating 1"-3" grubs and tubes tipped with sucker meat in 30'-80' of water. 

Williams Fork, Rainbows are in shallow water eating very bright jigs tipped with wax worms or very small pieces of sucker meat. Small jigs tipped with sucker meat are getting bit by lakers in 50'-80' of water. A few pike are being caught with spoons in 10'-15' of water.

Granby, Lake trout are hitting tubes, spoons and bled baits all tipped with sucker meat in 30'-80' of water. (Make sure your sucker meat does not interfere with the action of the lure). Rainbows and browns are hitting small jigs tipped with wax worms in 6'-10' of water.
