Middle Park fishing report for the week of 12-26-18

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 12-26-2018. Ice conditions are changing daily, please use extreme caution while walking on the ice.  Rainbows are being caught in 3'-8' of water. A 2 rod set up, one with a small spoon and the other with a small ice jig tipped with a meal worm seems to be working very well. Look for the rainbows and browns off of rocky/gravel points early in the morning. Kokanee are in deeper water generally suspending 10'-50' deep. They are following the plankton. Small bright colored spoons tipped with wax worms will entice strikes. Lake Trout are cruising in 30'-80' deep. Small soft plastics tipped with sucker meat should get bit.

Grand lake has 5" or more of ice everywhere we have fished it.

Shadow Mountain had 4" where we checked it.

Williams Fork still had open water as of the 22nd.

Granby has open water and plenty of spots with 1"-3" of ice.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND CHECK THE ICE AS YOU GO OUT!

Middle Park fishing report for the week of 12-18-18

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 12-18-2018. Ice conditions are changing daily, please use extreme caution while walking on the ice.

Willow Creek is frozen and fishing is good too excellent for rainbows and salmon. Rainbows are along the shorelines eating small jigs tipped with sucker meat. Kokanee are in deeper water jigging bright colored spoons tipped with wax worms, shrimp or corn will attract them.

Grand Lake, Rainbows and browns are along the shoreline. They will be eating small jigs tipped with wax worms in 6'-10' of water. lake trout are in deeper (20'-80') water and are eating small jigs tipped with sucker meat. Keeping the jigs moving seemed to be important last week.

Williams Fork is getting real close. This past weekend we were able to get out in the coves and fish for rainbows and a couple small pike.  They ate small spoons tipped with wax worms. The rainbow bite on all these lakes is early, the best bite is over with by 9 am.

Shadow mountain is frozen. They started pumping again so there is water on the ice around Green ridge boat ramp.

Granby is just starting to freeze. There is still some open water, casting spoons or jigs will entice lake trout.

Weekly fishing report for the week of 12-10-18

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 12-10-2018. Please use extreme caution while walking on the ice. Check it as you go. Grand Lake is frozen. Small jigs tipped with sucker meat are working for lake trout. Rainbows are eating tiny jigs tipped with wax worms or other larvae in the shallows.

Willow Creek is froze, rainbows are in the shallows eating ice jigs, small spoons and small jigging raps tipped with wax worms, worms or eggs. There are a few spawned out salmon along the shoreline. Don't move your lures too fast for these fish, they don't have any tails left.

Shadow is froze, Small browns and rainbows are eating tiny ice jigs early in the morning. Once the sun hits the ice it's over.

Granby is getting closer but for now we still have lots of shore fishing to do. Casting lures like leech flutter spoons, last masters, tube jigs will get bit by rainbows, browns and lakers. The key is to keep moving till you catch fish.

The north park lakes are froze, small jigs with wax worms fished in less than 10' of water will entice strikes from rainbows and brown trout.

If you want your pic in these reports email it to berniekeefe@hotmail.com put fishing report in the title. We will pick one a week and include it.

Weekly fishing report for 10-30-2018

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 10-30-2018. Fork Fishing Report, Surface temp is 46. Water capacity is 81%. Ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. The ramp will close for the season at 7PM on Wednesday October 31st. The inlet is closed to fishing due to Kokanee milking operations. CPW will be giving away milked Koke's on the 30th. Lake trout fishing is very good! Casting lures from shore or a boat is producing fish. Vertical jigging is producing more fish than casting. We are easily catching limits in 40 to 70 foot with Reel Bait Plain Jane's and Zimmer Spoons tipped with sucker meat or bottled Salmon eggs. The bite drops off mid day, but the fish are catch-able all day. Shore fishermen are catching large Rainbows bottom fishing with bait or casting lures. Northern Pike can be spotted in shallow water on sunny afternoons but are difficult to catch. Kokanee trolling is very slow.  Consistent with the last several years... there is no Kokanee snagging action due to low population. Randy H guide - Fishing with berniekeefe@hotmail.com

Lake Granby lake trout spawn is going strong. Bank fishermen are doing well with long slender spoons like the Leech flutter spoon fished deep and slow. Soft plastics tipped with sucker meat are also producing a lot of fish. The key is fishing right in the rocks, lighter jig heads will help with the snags. Boat fishermen are doing well with soft plastic tubes, twister tails and plain jane spoons tipped with sucker meat. Rainbows are hitting small jigs tipped with wax worms under a bobber near the inlets and rocky areas. There are some salmon along the shorelines, small pink jigs tipped with a wax worm under a bobber will give you opportunities at these fish.

Please remember  shadow mountain spillway to Columbine Bay is closed to fishing October 1st to december 31st.

Be prepared for the new boat ramp hours. Here is a link.

Ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. The inlet is closed to fishing. The lake trout bite continues to improve with the cooler water temps. Look for fish in 60' to 80' of water. We are catching on rubber jigs and 3/8 oz metal spoons tipped with sucker meat on or just above the bottom. Shore fishermen are catching a few small lakers casting spoon. Large resident Rainbows are cruising the shore lines. Casting minnow like lures should produce some hits. Bottom fishing for Rainbows is slow, but casting small spinners early in the AM and late PM is also producing hits. Kokanee trolling is slow with one or two fish caught per day. Grand Lake, Lake trout are in full spawn mode and eating small jigs and spoons tipped with sucker meat. Rainbows are cruising the shorelines hitting small spoons.

Lake Granby is fishing very good from the banks for rainbows. Coves and creeks seem to be very good places to cast lures early and late in the day. Lake trout are starting their spawn. The "egg eaters" (15"-20") fish are eating with a vengeance. From rocky shorelines try casting "Clam" Leech flutter spoons or white twister tails and fish them deep. From boats those same techniques will work or sit on top of the schools and jig spoons and plastics tipped with sucker meat.

Please remember  shadow mountain spillway to Columbine Bay is closed to fishing October 1st to december 31st.

Wolford is fishing very well for kokanee, jigging spoons or trolling dodgers and squids have been producing limits of 14-16" fish. Rainbows are being caught along the shorelines with bait and lures.

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 10-1-2018. Grand Lake, Water temps have been in the mid to upper 50’s depending on the time of day and fishing has been good for all species.  Rainbows are being caught along the shorelines on various floating Rapalas, spoons and spinners either being cast or trolled.  Brown trout are shallow early and then moving deeper as the day goes on.  The lake trout are becoming more active and aggressive as the water cools, 3”tube tipped with sucker will consistently get bites once you find the active fish, look for them in depths of 35-60’.  Dan Shannon – Guide, Fishing with Bernie

Williams Fork Fishing Report, Surface temp is 57. Water level is at 83%. Boat ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. The inlet is closed to fishing. Fishing is slow for all species, but the lake trout bite has picked up a bit this week. We are catching small lakers in 80' to 90' of water on rubber jigs and 1/2 oz metal spoons tipped with sucker meat. The lake trout are very active in the am which makes them easy to locate with your sonar. They are hitting on the bottom or a few inches from the bottom. Northern Pike are slow. Large Pike should be moving to shallow water late in the AM. Cast shallow areas with slow moving Rapalla's. Some small stocked Rainbows are being caught casting small spinners. Large resident Rainbows hunting minnows along the shore line will hit any lure that replicates a fish. Kokanee trolling is slow with one or two fish a day being caught. Most of Will Fork's Kokanee trollers are fishing Wolford. Randy H Guide - Fishing with berniekeefe@hotmail.com

Lake Granby, Surface temps 58 degrees. Browns can be caught on shallow running crank baits very early or late in the day. Rainbows are being caught with small spoons or jigs below bobbers. The best rainbow bites seem to be around spawning fish. Lake trout are very close to their spawning areas. Spoons tipped with sucker meat, small jigs tipped with sucker meat are all working well. The key is finding active fish.

Weekly fishing report for the week of 9-17-2018

Here is your middle park fishing report for the week of 9-17-18. Williams Fork, Surface temp is in the low 60's at 7AM. New ramp hours are 7AM to 7PM. Water level is at 85% and dropping. The inlet is closed to fishing. Fishing is slow for all species. Lake trout bite is hit or miss. One day fishing is good the next day the bite is off. We are catching young lake trout in 70 to 100 foot of water on rubber jigs tipped with sucker meat. Bite seems better on choppy water. Pike are slow. As the lake cools trophy Pike will be moving shallow water to sun. Stocked and resident Rainbows are being caught on small spinners early and late in the day. Cast to rises. We are still seeing small schools of Kokanee at 40 foot as we move around looking for Lake Trout. Kokanee trolling is slow. Trollers are averaging one or two fish a day. Randy H Guide - Fishing with Bernie

Grand lake, Rainbows are still fair to good in the evenings with spoons or a fly and a bubble. Lake trout are very finicky, We caught some last week with very small white and chartreuse Reelbait plain jane spoons tipped with sucker meat.

Wolford, Kokanee fishing is still pretty good. A lot of limits being caught by trollers. The fish are deep, down riggers or heavy spoons will help reach these fish.

Granby, The lake trout are slowly moving to their spawning areas. Small plastics or spoons seem to be the key right now. White or chartreuse power twisters, Gulp minnows, Reelbait "plain Jane" spoons all tipped with sucker meat will entice strikes.

Middle park fishing report for the week of 8-27

Here is your Middle Park fishing report for the week of 8-27-19.  Fork Fishing Report, Surface temp is 64 in the early AM. Water level is at 89% and dropping. Last weeks stocking of 3,500 small Rainbows put a hurt on the Pike bite. Pike fishing is slow but if one keeps after it you may come up with a fish or two. Fish the shore line for small Pike, deeper water for trophies. Lake trout bite has slowed dramatically this week. Small metal spoons tipped with sucker meat are producing more hits than rubber jigs in 80 to 100 foot of water. Shore fisherman are catching the recently stocked Rainbows on small spinners or fly and bubble late in the day. Bank fishing the bottom with bait is slow. You'll catch more Crawdads than fish. Randy Hall Guide - Fishing with berniekeefe@hotmail.com

Grand Lake, The fishing has drastically slowed down, but a few lake trout are being caught on small jigs tipped with sucker meat. Rainbows are best in the evening with small spoons or a fly and bubble combination.

Lake Granby, Rainbows are best early and late using small spoons or fly and a bubble combo. Lake Trout are in 60-120' of water. They were hitting slab spoons tipped with sucker meat, small power bait twister tails and tubes tipped with sucker meat. A few kokanee have been caught by trollers in Columbine bay.

Wolford, The kokanee fishing has been very good. Down riggers or jigging spoons seem to have the highest success rate. Keep changing colors and speed till they bite.

Middle Park fishing report for the week of 8-21-18

Here is your Middle Park fishing report for the week of 8-21-19. Williams Fork Fishing Report, Surface temp is holding steady at 64 at 6AM. Water level is at 90% and dropping daily. Will Fork was stocked with 3,500 Rainbows last week. Say goodby to Pike fishing in the east boat ramp bay for a couple of weeks! It had to happen some time... the lake trout bite has gotten slow. We are seeing plenty of fish in 80' to 100' of water but getting them to bite is difficult. We keep moving from spot to spot dropping rubber jigs tipped with sucker meat on the fish and get a very light hit or two at each spot at or near the bottom. Moving from spot to spot I'm seeing small schools of Kokanee at 40'. Trollers are hooking up with an occasional Kokanee, Rainbow or small lake trout. Bottom fishing from shore is slow but Rainbows are breaking the surface early AM, late PM and overcast days. Casting to groups of rises with small spoons or spinners should produce some hits. Northern Pike are slow but we got a couple of nice fish last week. Work the shore line for young Pike, deeper water for trophies. Randy H Guide - Fishing with berniekeefe@hotmail.com

Grand Lake is fishing well in the evenings for rainbows and an occasional brown trout. Casting spoons or a fly and a bubble to risers has been very successful. Lake trout have gotten a little more picky this week. sizing down seemed to help.

Wolford has been fishing very well for kokanee, trollers with lead core line or down riggers have been catching fish consistently. he key seems to be changing colors when the fish quit hitting. Jiggers have been doing very well with "reel bait:" Plain jane spoons tipped with wax worms, shrimp or white shoe peg corn.

Lake Granby, The rainbows are hitting powerbait and lures fished near the shorelines. A few kokanee are showing top in the deeper water in Grand bay. Lake trout are getting finicky. Changing lure colors often seems to help the bite.
