Grand County Fishing Report Week of 8/4/25

It’s been an epic open water season so far, it might be full summer conditions but the fish have remained hungry and cooperative! We look forward to what the late summer has in store for us and even more for the fall bite. Get out there, read the fishing report, pay attention to the details and enjoy some excellent summer fishing!

Grand Lake - Boat ramp hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Water temperatures have been 66 to 70 degrees depending on time of day. Fishing for all species has been fair. You will find the best rainbow trout and brown trout action early in the morning right at sunrise. Rainbow trout and brown trout colored jerk baits, silver, gold and chartreuse spoons have been producing fish. Lake trout action has been fair. Look for lake trout in 55 to 100 feet of water. A two to three inch black or gray tube jig tipped with a small piece of sucker meat has been the most consistent bait. Pay close attention to those light lake trout bites. Fishing with Bernie Guide, Dan Shannon.

Williams Fork Reservoir - The east boat ramp hours are 6 a.m to 8 p.m. daiily. The water level has dropped to 98%. Inflow is 41cfs, outflow is 217cfs. Free floating plantonic algae is starting to effect visibility in the upper layer of the water column, but below the algae visibility is good. It's also causing some interference with sonar on the east side of the lake if sensitivity is set at a higher level. Surface temp early morning has been 65 warming to 67 mid-day. A recent crawdad hatch coupled with the kokanee salmon stocking has made the bite a bit slower, but we are still catching limits of keeper size lake trout. There are some groups of fish in 50 to 60 feet of water but the most consistent bite is in 70 to 90 feet of water. Small tubes tipped with fresh sucker meat is working best for us. The fish are not very aggressive so presentation is key to getting a bite. Gently work your jig just off the bottom with a long pause between strokes. Keep your line tight so the light bites can be detected. Northern pike has been slow but I'm hearing reports of some being caught in the shallow bays. Please practice catch and release on all northern's caught. Rainbow trout haven't been stocked for several years so it's doubtful there's any catchable fish in the lake. The recently stocked kokanee are very small and won't be catchable for a few years. Fishing with Bernie Guide - Randy Hall.

Lake Granby - Boat ramp hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Water level is at 94% or approximately 4.5 feet below full. Rainbow trout bite has been fair. Best success for shore anglers is at sunrise and sunset. Little Cleo, Dinner Bell, or Blue Fox spinner worked along the rocky shorelines has been producing fish. Bait fishermen have reported success with Mike’s shrimp eggs and nightcrawlers. Brown trout fishing has been good during the windy evenings. Look for them along the windblown rocky shorelines and mud transition areas. The most consistent lure for brown trout has been a white 2-inch swimbait on a 1/4 ounce jig head. Lake trout bite has remained good. Fish are in 60 to 95 feet of water. A small tube jig or grub in pink, purple or smoke color tipped with fresh sucker meat has been very productive. The keys to success as the busy summer continues on have been finding active fish and detecting those light lake trout bites. Stay mobile to find the active fish..
