Fall offers ample options afield. Across the spectrum of hunting, fishing and other outdoor pursuits, autumn is truly a time of plenty. And one of the more overlooked opportunities involves the early fall trout bite.

The action often gets lost in the shuffle of activities, and is largely misunderstood by the masses. But the fact remains, September produces fine fishing afoot and afloat for anglers who understand a bit about fall trout behavior.

The five mile run across Lake Granby from the Stillwater boat ramp up into Columbine bay takes your breath away.  The steep walls of the pseudo-fjord dive deep into the water.  Moose and Elk occasionally swim the channel.  The bald eagle’s nest near the inlet guarantees you will sight a big bird, or two, every trip

September through October, Lake Granby still brings some great "bites". The water temperature is still warm which means that the big fish are still biting and are found in deeper water. During the second part of September the Kokanee start to spawn and they put up a great fight! The Kokanee season is a short season, but is well worth the wait and the excitement.
